This was the second time I have assembled the chair and it took longer then the first time. It kept on sliding on the floor and it is much easier to maneuver when placed onto a table. I haven't worked out the best order when it comes to putting the parts together however this is one example, there may be quicker options.

Hazard!
Xanita Board 1:1 Mock Up
This is a problem with the flaps that fold over onto the back rest that sits underneath the bars. These flaps are the key part of the design and hold the chair together. I took all the material out for a bend which wasn't neccessary so next time I will just use a "V" cut.
The bars that fold over the back rest were extremely flimsy because i took out all the material for the bend. For the final model I will just do a "V" cut because they work really well even though they are alot harder to cut.
Model Trial
I started to push the card board and give it some force in all the directions to test the balance and durability. Its was all excellence and working well untill I pushed down on the tip of the seat which was when i realised that because of that angle in the front it looses a lot of balance once load has been forced down. This means i had to go back and change it.
Model Trial
Basicly i learnt from the last model that there wasn't enough strength in the section where some one sits down and that the sides were weak but the back rest was extremely strong. So from that knowlege I used my weakness as my strength and repeated the folded back rest on to the seated section. this proved to work and was very successful. By add the extra bars on the front section and the back section this made the seat even more durable and tactile. By adding the new section on the seat and the parallel bars on the fron and back this really changed the look of the design and gave the chair a new and interesting appearance.
Model Trial
Once i did some development sketches I started to gain some confidence in making a scaled model to see its proportions. This is a 1:5 scale and from this cardboard which is 2mm thick it was hard to get a full understanding of how this chair would be as a finished product. The problem was that the side profiles kept on moving and didnt have enough support for any weight but the back rest was really strong so i needed to go back and redesign the front section further more.
Development Continuing
This is one of my last development concepts and is one of my favourite designs. I will highly concider working more on this design and developing the structure alot more. This design just uses a slotting system so I am thinking to be a bit more innovative and come up with more complex folds to support this chair.
Concept One
My first concept was from the earlier concept development designs. I love its originality and its form looks like it would be comfortable to sit on. However im not to sure that this is possible to construct as i haven't dealt with Xanita that much yet and i'm unsure its stucture will support enough weight.

Engineering and Construction
This is my result when working with my Xanita box trial. This was a great way to get practice cutting the board and learning the limitations of its flexibility and working out the exact dimentions for the different folds. This was my second go at it as the first time it didn't really work out and didn't look like a cube as i didnt consider the width of the board but i was satisfied with my second shot. If i thought it was hard working with a simple 60x60x60mm box i have a look coming my way when it comes to the final model.
Concept Develpoment
This design is very simple in its form and would be extremely easy to construct. Im not to sure if it will be able to support alot of weight and needs more development for it to work. Once again i am incorporating the soft angles into the design but I feel it just needs more to it.
This is using the same technique as the other example, how ever I do like the form and I think it has a nice angle to the back rest. This is a good example to work with and develop as i like the subtlety of the gentle angles.Now this is a different technique compared to the others and just uses one very lengthy piece of material and possibly may not fit on the desired space of material we are provided with. I do like the idea of the angled bottom for a foot rest though.
Here is another chair with an interlocking system. This design is a lot more simple and abit too basic. I think there needs a lot more thought in this design if it were to work. Its deffinately not one of my favourite designs.
This is more of a lounge chair where people can lye down and rest their feet. This design incorporates more of a organic form and has a fluid like motion to it. I think it is a very appealing design and looks very attractive yet i think it may be very complicated when it comes to constuction time. I don't think the curved legs could support a lot of weight and could collapse instantly.
This concept is following the idea I came up with when creating the support system and uses the same principles. I like the idea of the chair sloting into another chair which would lengthen the amount of room for more people to sit on. If the chair is sitting alone the side section can be used as a side tanle.
Rough Sketches
Here I am drawing what ever comes to mind, starting with a simple shape or pattern and then turning it into a 3 dimentional sketch. The game tetris came to mind as its shapes are very simple geometry and i used it as inspiration for these sketches. A good thing about the tetris shapes is that they can interlock into one another so maybe the chair could inter-connect with other chairs to create a larger lounge
